First off, I want to point out that like any other business requires front-end investments, making your own affiliate program is no exception. Below is the list of minimum requirements you will need to start and maintain your own affiliate program.

The essential requirement is a website. This is probably the most difficult of all the preparations you'll need to make for your affiliate program. You can search for a good provider that offers free hosting services, sign up for a free hosting account and get a URL which is an extension of their domain name.

Your website will have less credibility while the URL is an extension of someone else's domain name. And what's more, you'll gain recognition if you have your own domain name as www.domain.com

Let’s move on to the software you will need.

Software you will need

Affiliate management software – software that provides tracking and reporting of actions such as sales, registrations or clicks from affiliate links. I think it’s only fair to mention xooPartner.

Email software – usually computers that come with Windows OS have Microsoft Office already installed, so you can use MS Outlook or search and buy another email client that would better suit your needs. Don’t forget about email autoresponder, a program that sends automatic responses to incoming emails.

Tell a friend system – it’s optional but this tool will help you to build and grow your mailing list

Antivirus program – right, its better keep you computer protected from viruses.

Live support tool – it’s optional, but you can surprise your potential clients by giving customer support. You can organize your customer support with the help of xooChat for instance.

It’s not a complete list but sufficient enough to start your own affiliate program and later you may want to acquire additional software and tools according to your specific needs as you go deeper into your affiliate program.

And remember, a good beginning is half the battle.
